Couple of recent finds

We went out a couple of weeks ago (undisclosed location) and came up with a couple of odd finds. d2 found one of these, and I found the other. After much haggling and negotiations, I was able to acquire d2's find for the grand price of two quarters. Anybody got any ideas on ID'ing these two round-nosed bullets?

Thanks,

Kim

I thought 50 cents was a good deal for a dropped bullet. Have you found out what they were yet? Does anyone know what they are? And did I make a boo-boo? If it is worth more than 50 cents I want it back...d2

d2,

The rounded nose instead of the more pointed conical shape detracts from its value. Another thing is that it only has 2 grooves.... instead of the more-sought-after 3 ringer. Now, if it was an Enfield, I could have gone up to maybe $.75... they have no rings... and are pretty well wanted. If I can be of any further assistance... should you find another of these... let me know!

Take care,

Kim

This aint sounding good already. Bulletman777 if they are 54 ms. are they worth anything...d2

After looking at the M&M book, they are #301 .54 cal.for Mississippi rifle, like Bulletman said. Also, unfortunetly for d-2,in the price guide they go for $80-$90.If you want to sell them I'll double d-2's price.Haha. p.s. they are confederate.Nice find.

On June the 6th of this year I found "30 pieces of silver" on the northern edge of a battlefield. 5 seated quarters 2 half dimes and 23 dimes. They were all seated except for one of the dimes it was an 1836 bust. After looking for 4 days and thinking I had found it all I called my 2 buds, Kim and Jim to my secret spot. Jim found a 3 ringer that had been hammered into a rectangle, you can still see the 3 rings on it and Kim found 2 more seated quarters an 1858 and an 1859. The "squared bullet" we assume was possibly a good luck charm and the soldier that lost his money probably had it in the same poke as his money. Kim and Jim both tried to give me their finds so all of the soldiers stuff would be together but I would not take it. I finally came upon the idea of swapping stuff for the extra 3 pieces. When I found the .54 MS. Kim and I were taking a break and talking and looking at the bullet when he mentioned the quarters and I asked him if he would swap, he said he would. Now all I had to get was the "square bullet" to make it all complete. I ran Jim down and told him I would buy him a new shovel for the bullet and he agreed also. Now The whole poke is together and I am one happy camper. With health and good friends who needs money. Also when I found those seated coins that was and still is the only silver coins I have ever found. I will get Kim to post a picture of it all 'cause I cant do it with out it taking up the whole page. Thanks guys...d2

d2,

Will be glad to post the pics of all the silver pieces for ya. In fact, I have the digital camera at the house now. When you get the chance, run on up the road and we'll get the pics and get them posted.

Thanks to the others that have posted.... yes, they are .54 Cal Mississippis, but the location of where they were found is yet to be disclosed! :smoke:

:csflag:,
