sand turner

UK member Sovereign XS/WOT been doing beaches for a couple of years.
My way of setting up each trip is just to turn on to full volume with sensitivity at minimum (all the way anticlockwise) adjust to a barely audible threshold with the coil on the deck (no metal underneath as far as I can tell!) and ease the sensitivity up until the threshold starts nulling/becoming unsteady (around two o'clock usually with the WOT) and off I go!
I get a few what I call iffy signals, repeatable but scratchy sounding, not iron but not great signals and they often are hard/impossible to get a good "DIG ME" noise out of no matter how long you check them out even if they don't move around.
Are they ever WORTH digging to check them out. I usually only dig definite BOOMS and I'm kinda wondering if I should be digging a little more. Also sweep speed, I do about 4ft a second. I know a lot of experienced (more experienced than me) users say that's too fast, but if I go slower the signals are received just the same and I'm not hitting anything I don't hit with the faster sweep.
I only do wet sand hunting, don't do water or top of the beach (too much trash there for the WOT)
