Couple of questions on the Golden umax with the Clean Sweep coil

I fully realize you won't get the depth with the CS that you get with the 9X8 but---Does this arrangement (CS on the Golden) throw the balance off very badly on this detector?----How well does that coil work on the Golden without sending them in for callabration? (as far as tones, the pre-set gb etc.)-----Does the 3X18 CS being a widescan coil "hit" as well on targets (coins & jewelry) as the 9X8 stock concentric?-----Told ya I was a newbie to the Golden!----------Thanks guys, Del

I don't have the Golden, but I've got a stable full of similar preset detectors. So far I haven't had a gb problem with the CSC or any others, but I'm hunting fairly mild ground most of the time. Some years ago, I asked Tesoro about changing coils on preset machines and they suggested sending in the coil and detector to be adjusted IF ONE WAS GOING TO USE THAT PARTICULAR COIL ALL, OR NEARLY ALL THE TIME, in order to get optimum performance - and/or if one experiences falsing or other problems. IMHO, one should try the coil a bit to see if it performs as it should before sending it in. So far, I haven't needed to.

I have the older Golden with the following 5 coils: 7" concentric, 8" DD, 8" brown donut, 8x9, and cleansweep. I can use any coil and get optimum performance. My soil is quite mild. My detector was never sent to Tesoro for calibration to any of the coils. I can raise and lower the coils to the soil with almost no sign of negative/positive ground balance. When I first got the detector I adjusted the internal GB trimmer for my soil, prior to adjusting the GB was off just a little.

Thanks guys----I received my Rev. 2 (new tone) Golden yesterday (8/10) and did some testing with it in my shop & test garden (settings on targets, etc.).---It was just a tad on the positive side for gb with the 9X8 stock concentric coil in the areas here I checked it on.---I was pretty happy with the pre-set gb on it here though as it was really quite good/close.----Took it on a hunt to an old park today & found some clad, a couple of 1960's copper pennies & a Boy Scout neck kerchief slide (guess that's what you call 'em). :)-----Nothing was deep but it was a fun hunt, the Golden run fairly quiet in there.------I'm thinking the CSC would be a good coil on that detector when you wanted to cover a lot of ground fast looking for fresh drops.-------Guess I shouldn't have sold my other CSC off my Silver to Crouser!-----Hear that Mike?----If ya ever wanta sell it, let me know!:biggrin:--------Thanks again for the responses guys.----------Del

My Cleansweep performed good even before I got a GB mod done on my Golden. If it's just a little bit off GB it doesn't really matter.

The only thing changed with the CSC is the notch width setting was slightly different position than the spoke coil , hank
