Couple of odd items...

Here are some items I found in the last few days, not pictured is a Merc I posted a couple days ago.

Any idea what the heart thing is? And the button was very deep in an old yard. It says "CANADA" across the top, and I can make out the word "defense" on the right side wrapping around the Maple Leaf. There is no writing on the back at all. I think it's WWI or earlier...any thoughts?

Just a wild guess - maybe the maple leaf button was for civil defense, like maybe an air warden? Is that a hook coming out the back of the heart - wouldn't have a clue as to what that is. Interesting finds....

Looks like a general service button.

So cool! I didn't think much of this item, but someone on another forum was able to ID this for me. Washburne, Pat'd 1894 and 1896. A card cheating device?! I never would have guessed. I found it in the same location where I have found many old things, supposedly the spot where the circus would set up in the early 1900's.

And yes, the button is a general service button. Thanks...

That's a great find! Love those oddball items & very cool that someone could ID it.
