Couple of Compadre ?s

Reading all you Compadre user's awesome posts has really got me wanting one. Have a couple questions though. Where is the sensitivity set at from the factory? And what is the exact diameter of the 5.75" coil. Is it really 5.75" or more like 6". Also for you guys who have used both 5.75" and 8" coil Compadre's do you favor one over the other. I'm having a tough time deciding which one to get.

Thanks,
Mike

Are you referring to internally, because the Compadre doesn't have an external sensitivity adjustment. I just measured my coil and sure enough it is exactly 6" in diameter (across) That being said it is only about 2" difference overall or an 1" addition each direction in comparison to the 8". I have never had the 8" compadre but did have the 7" at one time I kept my 5.75" over it for no apparent reason, I feel they were very similar overall.

Personally I love the smaller coil because it forces you to swing slow and steady in order to fully cover a field or hunt location.. I may get a 8" in the future for fun but my Silver uMax with 8" coil fills the need for the bigger coil for me personally.

I personally recommend getting the 5.75" because most other machines you will get in the future have larger coils stock. You should quickly be able to pick up a second machine with your Compadre finds. If not I guarantee you will not get bored of that fun little machine.

If this is not enough incentive to get one then I don't know what is, but I just found my 13th gold ring this morning using the Compadre. at least 8 of the 13 ring I have found were with the Compadre. IMO you cant go wrong with either choice.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info deliveryboy. Yeah I meant the internal sensitivity pot. Was wondering how close to max it was set. I am leaning towards the 5.75" model since I do have other detectors with bigger coils. The 8" model just looks like it would be a lot of fun too.

Unless the Compadre boards have been changed in the last few years there is an internal sensitivity pot on the Compadre board. It's at the top of the board, shown inside the red outline.

Mine was factory set below what it could be for my soil so I gently tweaked it.
