Couple of Analog mods, Compass GoldScanner Pro & CZ-3D

Old California

Here are a couple of neat mods, Don't beleive I've posted them on the mod forum before.

Nothing wrong with stock set but changing the setup around a bit allows longer hunting time easier on the arm.

With the Compass GoldScanner Pro, managed to use the same stock S-h

Thank you downeaster,

Not much time to thinker with electronics but once in a while relish the chance to use a soldering gun, maybe someday will pursue it when I retire.

Here's another recent project, two years back modified a Compass 94b Automatic making it much smaller. Ripped the guts out and placed the 99b automatic duel circuit board into a gutted Compass Huster housing.

Tight fit, had to elimate or change some of the components to make it fit, overall she's a beauty works fantastic so much better balanced. Used a Garrett AT-Pro S-handle, Extreamly nice unit.

Will post a few pics, one of the pics has the old original 94b Automatic green metal box and another pic shows a stock Compass Huster.

I would imange this to be the worlds smallest Compass Automatic on the planet.

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)

Some fantastic mods that you have done, its nice to see some of the old classic's getting a modern make over.

Thanks Mega,

Vintage models are my favorites, Even though will slowly faze out of the hobby and eventually sell my upper end models will still continue to collect some of the vintage models not in the collection.

Guess tinking with them brings as much joy as does swinging a coil over old dirt, Even when modding a detector can turn the other direction and end up damaged from a mistake it's worth the risk.

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)

Old California,

Sweet mods, how much did it help with the balance of CZ-3D?

Thanks,

Joe

Hello Joe,

With the CZ-3 mod, it helped balanced the unit allot has a really good feel as well.

I wouldn't recommend this mod for those wanting to do the same, Extreamly tough one to complete allot of rerouting wires and eliminating some to regroup many of the extra EMI wiring.

NASA Tom or Fisher tacked on allot of EMI fixtures onto many of the components to elimate EMI, a nightmare rerouting all the extra wiring but it was necessarily to maintain the added EMI fixtures. Never seen any of the other CZ models having the extra EMI fixtures, so its a good thing adding it onto the CZ-3D NASA Tom or Fisher really went above the norm when they made the 3-D.

Thanks Joe, Take care.

Thanks for the information, it looks like it would really help.

No, I wouldn't try a mod like that, I will keep on using a chest mount and straight shaft... lol

Joe

Paul, you have really wetted my appetite by doing a mod on one of my Arado120b detector,i have a spare straight shaft that i may try and graft the control box onto as the old Arado's are a all time classic over here in the UK the old down side is the weight, its a heavy old beast to lug around for any length of time as the control box is big enough to put a car battery in well nearly  and the shaft looks like its made out of old gas pipe  but its very good on pasture so if i can reduce the weight i think i would tend too use it alot more or use it with a harness maybe.

Thanks for showing us some of your classic,i dont have as many as yourself but what i do have are in mint condition.

Mega

Paul, I have always enjoyed your posts and the pictures of your modifications, and especially your collection of vintage detectors. I sure hope you keep posting them !!!

Thanks downeaster,

You bet I'll try and squeeze in a post or two in the future do have a few unfinished mods, Although I'll be fazing out of the hobby on the detecting side the vintage models will stay not selling those. It's the upper end models of today that will eliminated in the future, don't need them anymore.

Finally got my priorities in order, Have several math projects on the board that I've neglected things never acompshed before really neat stuff looking forward to the challenges of finally solving them.

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)

Hi Mega,

I've seen the Arado 120 before on UK ebay, that's an oldie for sure but time proves its still a contender.

If possible, Post a pic of her when you get the mod done.

I once have a Viking 5 before, UK model and that too was a fine machine.

Take care and post some pics when you can,
Paul (Ca)
