couple more questions about first water detector purchase

Hello everyone, I have a couple more questions on my first water machine purchase. First if I am correct I definitely want a vlf machine for freshwater lakes and rivers which is what I would be hunting 100% of the time. Also in my price range which is about $600.00 my choices for a fully submersible machine including headphones would be tesoro tiger shark, Garrett sea hunter, fisher 1280, or a detector pro headhunter wader. Did I miss any? What is every ones opinion on these detectors? I do have access to a whites surf pi that I can play with that my buddy bought off craigslist but it is a pi detector. Thanks all and HH.

Just curious, why the Pro over the Gold?
Tom

A good used CZ-20/21 would work. Whites BHID is also a good machine. I don't think you could get an Excal that cheap. And the Garrett is also a good machine.

Play with the PI machine and you will see what I mean about it finding every piece of rust and nail. You won't like it

Weve all been right where you are at...doing all sorts of research and asking the right questions...all fine detectors you listed...not wanting to sound biased,
I got the AtPro last summer, paid for itself really fast, bought a used CZ 20 before that, and it took a dump....lesson learned...again! Good Luck!

Thanks guys for all the replies. I thought about the AT pro but I want a machine that is completely submersible including headphones that I am not limited on depth. I do not know if I will ever take it deeper than 10 feet but I would like to have that option.

look at fe-bay i have seen excals 1000/800 go for about 600$ just aske if its waterproof before buying

I don't know how the Sea Hunter does in fresh water, but it is a killer at the beach....but like scubadetector said, you will find every piece of metal around..and I like
that at the beach, I dig everything, but sometimes you can dig for a while before you find what you are looking for at the bottom of that deeeeeeep hole. There is
some descrimination on SH but I don't trust it much. I feel that I am losing targets when I descriminate and i can't get use to the quite in descriminate mode. I guess
that I have gotten use to the threshold noise. I don't like the Tesoro's simply because of the surface area that the coil displaces...I have a hard time keeping the coil
near the bottom..Don't forget, the SH is a pulse induction machine and will find targets real deep (I know for sure at least 22 inches). No matter what you buy, learn how
to use it and practice, practice, practice, its amazing how long it takes to believe that a real quick double tone is usually a bobby pin, and I still have to make myself
not dig it. Lots of fun and luck. It's a great hobby.

AT-Pro...unless you are a diver you will not go deeper then it is rated for. It WILL pay for itself VERY, VERY quickly!! If you were talking Salt water I would not suggest it, but Freshwater...you can't go wrong. Why buy something used when you can get a brand new machine for less then your budget.

My first machine. And ill stick by it as a good beginners machine. Was Fisher 1280. It was an old one too.

Very simple to use. Scoop included, its well within you budget. 400 for a used machine, an 200 for a scoop. Both cluld be higher or lower values.

You can learn to tell a penny from a pulltab bobby pin etc. It blips with iron objects.

Id go 1280 or good deal on used cz 21. Hh an gl.

has the predecessor to it the Sting Ray 2. Only thing I dislike is the one tone. BUT it serves him well and I am sure you will do great with it as long as you get out and use it. Good luck.

Good luck, get a decent scoop if you're wading, it makes a massive difference, everyone would agree on that I'm sure. Good luck :)

Hi Pointer, Ron Lord here I have been a MD hunter for 35 plus years and here is my 2 cents on the matter. The Sand Tiger shark and the Sea hunter are the deepest detectors out there for the Price. I own the Sand shark and the Sea Hunter .You will dig a lot of iron at first ,but once you get it all clean out ,you find that you find some very deep target. I have dug Gold ring as deep as 26 inches. If you can hear a very Faint signal dig it, lot of time it that nice Gold ring you will like. So have fun and happy digging .
