Couple days in Atlantic City

Relaxing trip. Only got about 1/3 the detecting time I was hoping due to a hurting foot. Wife ended up about $110 up on the slots and I was down only $5 so no complaints there!

Found a dollar bill in the wet sand; corner was sticking up and it pulled up in one piece. $4.60 in clad. Total of 7 wheat pennies. Three encrusted blobs that turned out to be toasted Mercury dimes. Total weight of 4.4 grams for all three where they would total 7.5 grams if not eaten away. Zippo lighter, couple of tokens and a Boston Hotel fork.

Have not been able to find anything about a Boston Hotel in or near Atlantic City. If anyone finds a reference for the Boston Hotel in or near Atlantic City please let me know. The fork was found in the same area on the same day I found 6 of the 7 wheats and the three Mercuries.

Nice Job TVR, those Jersey Beachs are wide!

Found some records of Atlantic City hotels that used to be, whether they were bought, changed names or torn down, but nothing about a Boston Hotel. I'm leaning towards someone brought it in from out of town and lost it during a picnic on the beach.

One of the toasted dimes, under closer magnification, I can make out enough letters to see that one side has United States of America around the outer part of the disc in a pattern that is more in line with the obverse of a Barber than the reverse of a Mercury. The unrecognizable blob in the middle sits in line more with the head of a Barber than the one on a Mercury. On the other side I can make out an NE and an E where I'd expect to see them to spell ONE DIME on the reverse of the Barber. So I think I have two Mercury dimes and one Barber Dime.

At low tide, in some areas there is a lot of wet sand to explore ... way more than I got to cover.

Yes, wet sand in an area that looked like it was cut out a little more than the surrounding areas.

you were rolling the dice........could have found gold

Was hoping for a repeat from a year ago when I hit gold and silver on the same beach at the same time of year. Just didn't get the coil over gold this time.
