Ok guys and gals, I'm 71 years old and I had been detecting since 1969 and way back with a Whites Coinmaster I think I was the only one in town with a detector as everywhere I went I was striking it rich with all the older silver coins, and gold jewelry. By the time the 80's rolled around is when the prices for precious metals went sky high and anyone with any sense cashed in what they had. When I cashed in I had over $500 face value of nothing but silver coins and if I remember right I ended up with close to $8000. When prices went back down and I had a family to take care of I stopped detecting for over 25 years but in 2008 my wife of 45 years passed away and being alone and retired I decided to look into another detector. After my 401k and getting on Social Security and my house being paid off I had enough money to by the best and after a week or so searching out I found that the Etrac was what I was going to get. It took me about a month to really get the feel of it and during that time I had found tons of clad and a pretty good amount of silver. By this time I was going out everyday to all the places I searched the previous years with my Whites. After a year and a trip to my sisters old farm in Duxbury Ma. where in a month I found on her property which dated back to 1704, $120.00 of silver coins including some of 1700's to the 1900's, and several King George colonials which I posted on this forum back then. I was really getting lucky as everyday when I got back home I would find silver just about every time I went out, including 20 silver coins mostly Mercs, and Washington Quarters and 2 Liberty Halves at a grassy Island where I was told later that everyday during the 40's and 50's an Ice Cream truck would stop and kids would line up and eventually drop their coins on the ground. I was really having fun until the Dreaded Shingles got me and I ended up with the ones that are with you for always. Pain,Pain,Pain...That's all I can say, and after only a year with my E trac I was finished and had to sell my beloved hobby. Now I have all of these old and silver coins and all I can do is to dump everything out and think of all the fun I had out there by myself, digging in the dirt and sometimes MUD...So what I am saying is to have all the good times while you can and hopefully you will stay healthy for years to come.

God Bless You and Thanks for Sharing

I wish you would tell us more of your detecting adventures Sir... I bet you have a ton of awesome experiences.

The ones listed are dream detecting adventures for most of us..

When I was detecting with my Etrac, I was posting my finds on this forum and was proud to see what everyone else was finding with the awesome etrac. My only wish was to have had this great machine back when I first started in 1969....:twodetecting:

Thank you for you're thoughtful message. I am in my second season with my Etrac and am just going to take one day at a time and enjoy, the swinging.
Anything that comes out of the ground has history attached to it, and sometimes you say," How did that get here?" I love it.

Thank you for your post. I'm very sorry to hear about the health problems! You are truly an inspiration to this hobby and your words of wisdom will be taken to heart!

We think alike and I'm sure that every time you see a 12-47 a nice Walking Liberty will be on the end of your digging tool.....:clapping

Hi there, it seems as Eva if has left as I haven't seen her post any more and as far as I know, she still has everything that I sent her. Sometimes I wish that I had it back just to look at it if nothing else. You wouldn't know it but I read these posts many times everyday. I always notice how you thank everyone for their pictures without fail. Take care and I will continue to look and wish....Herb

Herb,

You might look on the CTX part of the forum. I think Eva uses that and her husband uses the E-Trac still. That's where I saw here post last.
