Couldn't Take It Anymore!

I haven't swung a loop since November, and I had to get out today!
First I did a little recon on a couple of fields, but they were still mush. The last patches of snow are still melting, and the last of the frost is still just leaving the ground, so it's almost too soupy to walk on for now.

I had to go to the bank in town, so I decided it was time to hit the old park that I've used for years as a proving ground. Conditions there were plenty wet, but not soggy, so I spent an hour there.
I've pounded this place so long and so hard that I'm always surprised when it yields much but recent drops these days. Today it provided a pleasant little gift....my first real keeper of the season was an 1898 IH. I dug a '26 Wheat too, and some other more modern change, but the IH was unexpected as I know I've been over that spot numerous times in the past.

It was so nice to be serenaded by my 705 again! I have a hunch that this is going to be a GREAT year!

Sweeet, your first coin of the year is in the 1800's.

I'm hoping to get out this weekend but they are talking about a snow storm here on Fri, lol. I do not think this winter will ever end.

Tuesday 82 degrees, Wednesday 83 degrees, Today 85 degrees, I need some cooler weather and rain the ground is just short of rock hard

Here in California we are so jealous of all the old coins that you guys find where we have a harder time of even finding silver but what we do have is year around hunting, i can relate to being stuck with cold and freezing weather, hope you all get in some great hunting as the weather turns nice.

well done! I havent found an Indian Head in a long time and their my favorite.

Yep, that is a true statement! Here in SoCal you are lucky to ever find even a merc!

That's a good way to start off!

Nice finds OLH! Glad you could get out! The weather should be a bit more cooperative real soon for everyone!

Finally got out again for another short hunt. Didn't hit the 1800's this time, but I was close.

Congrats olh I found one in my life and it's a 1892 never found another one since!!!! Keep up the good work. Spursky!!

You're welcome Scott. (even if this is a thread resurrected from April) We all have our own ways of drawing on inspiration.

Research, research, research. I've located several old foundations to hit, but because of undergrowth I'll have to wait for spring to hunt them. Right now I'm focusing on bean fields that are starting to turn that had homes standing on them until about 100yrs ago. These are the things that get me motivated/inspired.
And if season is long enough, I'll look more closely at corn fields, but in all honesty they're a pain to hunt and I'd rather wait 'til they rotate to something else. The stuff that I'm looking for has been there 100+yrs, so I'm sure it can wait a little longer.

congratulation for the re-hunt of the park, very good hunch. The weather is not beter in France rain and cold, yesterday ice. The bright side of it is the depth we achieve with the wet soil. Can you do the pioneers trail?
