Couldn't do it...

I am giving up on the F75 SE. I really did not give it a fair shot with only four hunts. I thought it would be fun to learn a new machine. Well, it is not really. I kept thinking, how easy it is with my E II. I have used an Explorer for too many years (10) and I have been spoiled. I would probably say the same about the F75 if I used it for 10 years!

I am building a lightweight version of the Explorer II.

Thanks and HH - BF

I see your doing right well with your E..Thinking about when people ask "which detector should I get". It sure helps when a person gets a good one and learns it well, and that takes several years of dedication...with so little swing time available and so much ground to cover, I can understand sticking with something you know! I bet you are getting buried with snow this morning as I am..!

It is a different machine, thats for sure. I have a 75 and used my buddies E for a while and enjoyed it. It took many hours to get the hang of it.

It's a challange (with the 75) and you have to have your patience meter way up because your ears get flodded with signals, it's a very sensitive unit.

My buddy can't/won't hunt with anything other than his SE or E-trac for the simple reason he can't stand not having the flutie tones, he says the others give him a headache.

I say, make sure it's working properly before you give up on it, as you know, someone always gets a lemon from the mfg's.
It may be that it dosen't work well in your area and you have no choice.
Many 75 users have hundreds of old coin and relic finds, including myself.
Hang in there Big Fang.

Thanks Mudpuppy,
Yea we got the snow for sure. It will be a while before this one clears up. I am excited about my lightweight Explorer II detector project. I have almost all of the parts required now, so I will start chipping away at it while it snows.
Take care and HH - BF

Robin---Let us know how your lightweight Exp II project works out, I would be very interested in hearing your report.-----------Del

A lightweight Exp , maybe you can sell that info back to M/L. One of the things that holds me back.
In reverse of you i had a E Trac but it just was not a good fit for me.
After running a F75 the ETs weight ,speed and screen were all drawbacks for me.

The thing is, i think most of my M/L drawbacks are very fixable.
Good luck HH

Here is an update on my Explorer II project. I am using an X-Terra shaft setup. I cut an extra lower shaft and put about a foot behind the arm cup. I have the battery and Sun Ray probe mounted there. I can already tell this will really help on balance. I am hoping for a weight savings but will be happy with better balance and ergonomics. I have another Explorer II with Sun Ray probe, so I will weigh them both when done.

I am waiting on coil wire attachment parts now. They should be here this week. Then I can get-r-done.

Thanks - Robin

Being 2 days into a new F75se I can relate to your anguish. I have had near head explosions from signal flood overload using the 11" in a field. I have been able to find acceptable levels (for me, we are all unique in ability to cope) with the 5". I can see the learning curve is high on this unit, but also that the rewards will be high too. Good luck in efforts and I hope you can find a good home for the F75.
