The shaft on my Explorer keeps sliding down while I'm detecting. I have to stop every 10 or 15 minutes to push the shaft back in place. This just started happening. I had a little problem with the shaft before, but it would stay in place all day after I relocked the shaft in place. Is there an easy fix for this or am I going to need to send it in for repair?

Mine does this also
lossen the lock Slide the shaft out about an inch
and tape a piece of tape on the shaftthen slide the shaft back up
it will make a tighter connection Good Luck Dave

Dave's tape suggestion will work, however, other options are:
1. Teflon tape, if you already have a tight fit.
2. Small party balloon. Place over shaft and trim where needed. Acts as a cushion as well as a shim.
3. Check for any hairline cracks around the cam lock. Make sure you push the upper shaft all the way inside the control housing, which is about 2 inches. If all else fails, try another shaft for fit before contacting Minelab.
Good hunting,
David @ Dixie

get in touch with minelab in vegas minelab has a new upper rod to correct this problem & they will send it out free,it has a little indentation where it fits into the control house and the problem is corrected

I was very successful by taking a very large rubber band, cutting it into a 4 inch section. Then I removed the shaft from the housing and placed half the rubber band down the shaft and the other half I left hang out on the latch side, then shove the shaft into the base and latch. Mine has not moved since. I also make a mark around the shaft with a pencil so i can monitor if there is movement or not.

holding the cam lock, Sometimes, the pin will slide out giving the cam-lock too much play and not enough bite on the shaft.
If I remember, Don't you have the Sunray X-1 probe? It should have already had the little dent to keep the shaft from sliding out. Check the cam-lock pin
I'm on vacation next week, can you squeeze in a beach hunt with this central Ca relic hunter
Take care,
HH, Paul (Ca)

Good call Paul. Just checked the pin and it was almost out of the hole. Tapped it back in and the shaft is not slipping out anymore. I don't know why I didn't see the pin sticking out. Thanks for the help.
Give me some dates that you can hit the beaches next week and I'll join you. I'd be willing to come up the coast if you want to meet halfway in-between
