It mics out to be a 58 cal. It's exactly 1 inch tall. Or could it be a carved bullet?

looks like one from the side, but dont remember ever seeing one like that in the cavity... lots of varieties though so maybe
 
Check inside the base. There could be numbers, a letter or design embossed. Base appears to have been mashed; skirt is way too thick, even for a British machine made Enfield.
