Could the Silver umax do with an update ?

i am not knocking this very good machine ,but i have had mine over 10years and surely there must be some newer chips around that could boost its recovery performance in many ways .unless its been updated in the circuitry somewhere

The Technology isn't like a computer and changes every year. Most of whats new is the digital read out and lots of lots of marketing. Other than that, nothing has changed as far as the technology of finding metal.

:detecting:. This is true. I've also been told you can make any tesoro coil work with any tesoro. May need to be hardwired but they can be modified .

I realize where you're coming from, but if you want or need an update there's the Golden, Cibola, DeLeon, Cortez etc. The Silver fills a very specific nitch - that of a simple, effective beep and dig detector that can be purchased for a reasonable price, yet offers an all metal mode, discrimination and coil interchangeability. All you really need IMHO.

The way I see it is...Why fix it if it isn't broke? The Silver is an excellent coin and jewelry detector for well under 300.00. It rates as one of my all time favorite detectors from Tesoro and since it is a basic beep and dig detector there isn't any options I would want added to it.
If you need more options, step up to a model above the Silver

I agree 100X with what these guys said. I sold my Silver because I thought I needed something "better". Guess what I'm trying to get now? That's right, I'm selling my F5 for a Silver.

It's an excellent machine!!

I just went ahead and voided my warranty and did it myself. I added a "tab check" switch like the old Troy's used to have and set it to where the tabs break up. Hardly ever use it, but some areas it's handy.

Mentioning the "tab check" got me to thinking. I'd like to see a basic machine like the Silver come equipped with the double discrimination like on the Tejon. Two levels of disc. to determine what range a target is in seems very useful to me. I guess I could get a Tejon for that, but I've got all

having 3 tones on the Silver would make a great detector into a fantastic detector.

I think some kind of adjustable ground balance could help with the depth in the black sand.

Compared my Silver PCB with my Eldo's PCB.
Not much difference over most of the board from what I can see.
The Silver uses Eldo chip version 1.2 while the Eldo uses Eldo chip version 1.1
Not sure how much the chip controls.....
Looks like threshold, can be added as well as manual GB and frequency shift.
I do see an extra trim pot inside the Eldo, not sure what that is for yet?

And yes modding the Silver has entered my mind....LOL, it's the wife's......if she lets me

let me tell you a secret to improving the Silver

the reason i asked this is because on my 2 foot beer can test ,it performed poorly compared with my other machines .
the signal delay was well past the object ,say 3-4 inches ,whereas the others were spot on target .
this would lead me to dig in the wrong spot on a deep target .it could be a small hoard of coins and not a beer can at 2 feet deep.
this is with the 12x10 SEF coil installed.

Have any of you guys ever owned or used the Troy Shadow X2...It is the Silver Sabre taken to a bit higher plateau!...I have owned mine since 1999 and I treat this unit like I would a 1967 Mustang...(A Shelby Cobra GT 350) that is...The X2 is one nice unit!

The more you use and dig with your Silver the better the finds get,,,, it's a GREAT machine,, learn to hear the low volume -faint signals,,, the are good targets if they are repeatable
