Could someone please help me regarding cleaning of "Buffalo" nickel that I found today? Thanks

Magyar

Found the "Buff" in the damp sand today..along with ...well, the pic tells the story...not much of anything else.

Some days are better than others........this was an "others" day

I am soaking the nickel in warm H2O and mild dish detergent...but it's not doing anything to loosen all that green on the coin.

Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

........ but when I lived on the west coast the minute I pulled a silver coin out I'd lightly rub it with sand and the black would come right off.... but if it was in the air for even 1 minute it got very hard to clean. I always rubbed the coins the second I dug them... I got a lot of great looking coins that way.... the ones that were in the air to long and stayed black I'd run them in a tumbler for a little while to clean them up. ---
--- they aren't worth anything to a die-hard collector anyway ---
nice buffalo !

But can easily be overdone, dc current passed through electrodes in salt water, my setup uses a small train transformer..
