Could not have asked for a better 30th silver ... :minelab:

Another new local spot where they dumped old dirt from from the Main street reconstruction project a few years back. A large area to hunt but only half is detectable right now due to overgrowth.

When I saw that half laying there I thought for sure it was clad. My second Franklin half ever. I hollered but there was'nt anyone around to hear it...ha-ha ! I found the 1916 wheat shortly after arriving so I knew there was silver there. There is certainly more I can guarantee that ..it's just too hot and humid...and add in mosquitoes...I can only hunt in the morning and evening.

Not sure what the other item is. It has "Little Gem" in cursive lettering on one side. Almost looks like an old butane lighter....pretty cool. Naturally I was hoping it was full of coins but...oh well maybe next time.

Also, I can't seem to get that half-dollar any cleaner than that. It's not key-date or anything. I like to get 'em nice and shiny....but it is what it is ..

Stay cool brothers and sisters....Mother Nature is turning the oven on HIGH for a while.

Man, what a find!

Nice half.... try BAR KEEPERS FRIEND, you can get it about anywhere. If anything will make it look good that will. Its not as abrasive as baking soda... i think you will like. Ive dug a few copper tins... some held unusual perfume bottles.

Sweet finds Dave. Franklin half is #2 on my hit list, right under bust silver.

Nice find! For some odd reason, Franklin halves are really tough to find. Really like that Little Gem container too. HH

Very nice bunch of keepers McDave. Especially the Franklin half. You are right... there is more silver waiting for you there.
Hot here today too. The 'Little Gem' piece you found might just be a match stick holder. Hard to tell from the photo, but it is quite possible.
Try this method I found here to clean your half dollar. I have used it several times with extremely nice results on silver. It removes the nasty and leaves a more natural looking patina on the coin as opposed to the bright silver look obtained from other cleaning methods. Good luck on your next hunt there and congrats on your 30th.

Way to go Dave, sounds as if you have had a good summer. The drought down here has been worse than anything in my memory. No way to detect in concrete, about like you guys tryin to detect in frozen ground.

Wasn't minted for many years so indeed a nice find. In 20 years only 3 have gone in my pouch so congragulations on a nice find and watch the skeeters as they can carry some deadly diseases and keep yourself hydrated as this summer the heat is a killer...
