Could I have a faulty X-1 probe on my E-Trac?

I seem to get a lot of falsing with the the X-1 probe on my E-Trac. I don't remember getting so much falsing with the X-1 probe on my Explorer II.

Maybe I should swap the probes between the two machines and see if I still notice the falsing when using the E-Trac with the other probe. Any thoughts???

Hello Jim.

I have two Sunray probes that started going bad on me, and that's what they start to do. They false. Typically, the wires going into the probe have been pulled/bent/strained, and are not making good contact anymore. Sunray will charge you $100 for repairs if it's not under warranty.

A good way to check if your probe is starting to go bad is to flick/tap the probe wire with your fingers to see if you get a falsing signal while it is turned on. If you do, you've got a tweaked wire(s) somewhere on your probe. My first probe started going crazy on me as soon as I flipped the probe switch. When I bought a new one, I couldn't believe the difference of how a properly working probe functions....so quiet!!
