Could anyone give me pros or cons on the WOT coils ! for a SOV...

hi, this is just my opinion. i use to have a Wot coil for my explorer and i felt that it was just alittle to heavy and being the way the explorer is built i was able to feel the whole detector like flex from the coil on up to the handle if i did any type of wiggle . i brought a sunray x-12 and im much happier with it. i'd like to try one on my Sov GT being it feels alot more firmer but most likely i'd get the s-12 coil for it because i know it will be alot lighter and still pretty much get a good ground cover and also the added depth.

from what ive read they do work pretty well. all of guys like them as they are a good coil in wide open areas. they can get alittle noisy where there is alot of trash. i think its a type of coil youll need to work with and learn how and where to use it. like i yes if i get a chance to try it on my sovereign for about a week or two it would be interesting for sure. you may get some better answers going to the beach form or relic form cause those guys do hunt in wide open areas. when i had mine it did work fine and being its a double - coil i did find it to pinpoint well but just found it too heavy for a long day of detecting. i know you wouldnt go wrong with sunray's S-12. its a big coil also and i'll have one next month when i start heading down to the beaches. if you belong to a club maybe someone would let you try both coils out . that way you'd get a better idea of which coil you wanted.

OJM...the Sunray S-12 has proven itself to be a great coil. Not too heavy, good at pinpointing on my Sov. Elite and fairly deep. Although I haven't found any goodies any deeper with it than I have with my stock 10" Tornado coil, that doesn't mean I won't. Just haven't walked over that good, deep target yet. Ask digger dave what he thought of the WOT I sold him.

OJM, I have used the SOV XS2APRO with a WOT, and have just purchased a SOV/GT/WOT for beach and shallow water hunting. I have always hip mounted my SOV/WOT so weight has never been a problem, I hunt zero discrimination, zero notch and have found Silver coins, rings and Gold rings as deep as 14" on the wet fresh water beach's I hunt here in Alberta. Just my opinion, but I would think the salt water beach's would give you even more depth because of the salt.

I also hunt by sound, tones only, no meter so do dig a few iffy sounds while looking for the deep Gold! Some day I may try a Patrick meter, I really like the analog feature as I'm not a big fan of digital meters, just to help on shallow item confirmations. OJM, borrow one for a day at the beach, maybe an S-12 too, I'm sure you'll like what you hear. H.H.:)

Hi OJM, I only hunt beaches so there is alot of open area to detect. The 15" WOT coil is perfect for this type of hunting compared to a 8" or 10" coil which would take double the time to cover the same area. The Wot goes real Deep and is still very sensitive to small light rings and Pinpoints right on.Most complain about its weight but I feel for its 15" size It is light compared to 10" BBS coil that feels like an anchor to me and only weights a few ounces less then the Wot.I also use the SR 12" Intruder coil which is also a great coil and is very light in weight for its size but the Wot is what I use and both coils are WATERPROOF. Take care and Good Luck! Walter

The WOT is a great coil for beach hunting, but for land hunting the Sun Ray S12 is what most recommend if you want a bigger coil.
