Costco Merc

Venner

New member
I recently moved to O'ahu on a shoestring budget to take a new job and I had to leave a lot of things in storage on the mainland (for the time being.) That included my metal detector and other equipment. I'm mostly an old coin and historical artifact hunter, rather than a jewelry beach-comer, so it didn't sting that much.

However, in the month I've been in Hawaii, in addition to acquiring more than 20 new quarters to put in my state and national parks sets, I keep getting old coins from stores. I've gotten a couple of Indian Heads and a '58 Washington quarter, and then yesterday buying a slice of pizza at Costco, I got a '35 Merc back in change (below). It's grubby -- definitely been in circulation -- but in very decent condition with a lot of detail. It's funny how my head is trained to automatically swivel to look at my change when I hear that chime of silver.

I'm always checking my change for silver and rare date coins! You can always spot a metal detectorist because their heads are looking down, constantly scanning the ground/sand at the beach/tot lot bark etc; for gold and silver rings/jewellery/coins and anything else of any worth!!!

No way!

I thought the days of finds like this were long gone. It has been a number of years since I found anything nice like your find. Way to GO!
