Cost of Detectors:surrender::ausflag:

Hungry

Hello All, I read these notes with great interest, and would like to go down to BT's neck of the woods, and buy an XT70 with a 18.75 hz 10x5 elliptical coil and look for gold. But living on the Central Coast NSW its a bit far. I see the cost of these machines in the USA are quoted at $699. WHY do these machines cost $1200 here in Australia, when our $ is now worth 90% of the US $. It makes you wonder, and I feel we are being ripped off. When they bring out a 15" coil to do the beaches for these machines ,I will sell my Explorer SE and change to an XT70,and then I will have an excuse to go gold detecting. HH

G'day Hungry. the X-Terra 70's are around $1150, the 10x5 DD coil is $225. Kellyco have run a deal where they chuck the 10x5 coil into the deal. I don't know if they are still doing that. On the up side, If you buy from them, you can save a bit, but on the down side, if something goes wrong and they have had a few problems, then you will have to send it back to the States to get repaired! The reason is, that buy buying from overseas you become the importer and are therefore responsible for your own warranty work! (under Australian laws) This only applies to warranty work. You can still send it back to the factory here in Oz, for repair, but at you will pay for the repair.
Overall, Minelabs prices more closely resemble, what you might pay in the States (after you factor in all the associated costs) as does the Whites dealer, but some of the others, charge a lot more than they should, in comparison to the States.
Mick Evans.
P.S. you have 2 detecting shops within an hours drive of your location. Parramatta and Gretta if still operating there. Jack Lange recently moved north.

G'day Mick, I got the best deal on my Explorer from Bendigo Gold Centre, they were about $350 overall cheaper, including my trade in, so when I decide I will give them a ring. Still can't see why they are soooo dear here, Glad to see you did so well up on the Gold Coast. HH.

I purchased an Ace 250 from Bendigo Gold off Ebay for 250 bucks! The machine was is near new condition and my lady loves it. We do pay a little more here in Oz and it is ashame but there are always good deals on second hand machines available. And most of the time second hand machines come with extras if its from a private seller. :clapping: (Like a coil or two)
Cheers!

Thanks Hungry. Yeah. It's a bit of a pain knowing that we are paying more. Sometimes, depending on the detector (brand) it can be worth while importing it. Some brands can cost twice as much than if you import them yourself. I imported a pocket probe last year. Cost US$269, but by the time I had it in my hands, it was Au$420. They don't sell probes over here, so there was no choice. I'm glad I did.

G'day Nugget, why didn't you buy your wife an X tera70, then you could borrow it when your one is out of action.you skinflint LOL Every time I get on here you have just found another fortune, doesn't any one else in WA own a detector,by the way, i really liked your portable seagull tower, but you need a roof under the top bar to stop the poop. Nice part of the world over there, been there twice {before my detecting days] HH

Mick I think you find the minelab warranty is an international warranty and will be honuored no matter where you buy the detector.

Hi Kris,
You are spot on it does not matter if you buy it in any country as Minelab is an international company as long as it is new you will be covered if you are the first buyer. I was lucky i bought a demo exterra 70 for $950 with extra coil covers and got a full warranty.Regards Pinpointa:clapping:

someone else hungry, I'm a Queenslander and dont own a portable seagull tower?
Cheers!

Sorry Nugget, I should have typed Pinpointer, If he reads this he will know I was addressing this to him. HH

Thanks Kris. That's good to hear. I was passing on what I'd been told by the Garrett importer. I also remember talking to another dealer at some point, which seemed to confirm that point. I'm glad that Minelab have a more cosmopolitan view of things.
Mick Evans.

That was pinpointa. He Posted a picture of it on the explorer forum last Christmas. It was quite a sight.
