just currious those of you that owned a cortez if your in all metal mode does or the tid still show your targets?

Yes, but I never use it in all metal mode.
Excuse me for changing the subject, but I don't like the way the All metal tone sounds. I don't know how to describe it other than its too smooth of a tone, sorta like saying "wow" with emphasis on the "o". Discriminate mode sounds with a clean, distinct BLIP BLIP, which I like. Is this the way it is supposed to sound? Do any of you Deleon or Cortes owners use all metal mode much? opinions please?

I may stand to be corrected, but I'm pretty sure the all metal on the Cortez is the same as my DeLeon which is VCO controlled and therefore does indeed go pretty much wow when approaching a target rising in pitch wotj the highest/strongest tone indicating when the coil is directly over the target. The actual threshold is a fairly steady hum that can be set to just audible. I believe both machines will identify the target in all metal.

The VCO on all metal gives me an idea of how big a target is (drink can or coin) since sometimes both will hit on a solid 95 .

The Cortes cannot TID over 8-9 inches but can detect much deeper. Anything deeper comes up as "Iron or Foil" no matter what it is with an ID of 0-1.
Manual GB will get you deeper but what good is it when TID only goes 8-9 inches? After that it might as well be a beep and dig with disc.

I believe you are correct about TID being limited at those depths (probably less), more and more I find myself using the Cortes basically as a beep and dig mostly, with the TID just part of the overall decision to dig or not.

The screen ID for depth is only a one digit character so even if you are detecting a 10" deep item, it will only register "9". I have dug targets deeper than 9" with the Cortes, so I know it to be true.

Granted, when you start getting deep targets the machine might not have enough info to give you a good ID, and yes, sometimes because the signal is so weak it will ID as iron, or bounce, but knowing that its a deep target (by watching the depth ID), that should cause you to want to dig it regarless of what its reading. Knowing the "visiual ID" weakens at maximum depth is learning your machine and even though its not perfect, it still gives you info on your target and then you can decide if you want to dig or not.
