Cortez questions

Most of you know that I have a Deleon. It is my main detector (though my new Compadre has been soaking up some swings lately).

I have a few questions about the Cortez compared to my Deleon, as I may upgrade if feasible.

Both detectors have the same circuitry, so all mt coils will work and the depth should be the same.

I would think one con would be a smaller display, but I don't use that as much as I used to.(maybe the depth feature).

Does the Cortez not have multitone like the Golden?

Is the SUM feature all it's cracked up to be?

The Cortez does have GB, but the Deleon is set for my native soil quite well, slightly positive.

The light is no big thing to me, I don't night hunt.

I know my Deleon pretty well, and wondered if the Cortex would be easy to move to and the added few features justify the added price.

[size=large]... If you use a detector regularly, you'll learn the strengths and weaknesses. I didn't read any 'weakness' in your post about the DeL

I have a Cortes and use it on every hunt, also have a Vaquero. I agree with everything Monte said about comparing the Cortes with the Deleon. The SUM mode helps steady the meter, that is helpful, I use it, but it's slow because it does more analyzing. Cortes also has the multi-tone in SUM mode. The tones correspond to the ID numbers and to the Bars and they all change at the same time, so the tones are not needed if you are glancing at the meter.(lower ID number means lower tone). I tried to search in the SUM mode by holding the switch with my thumb, did this for about two hours. No way can it be done. The SUM mode cannot handle changing targets, it has to zero-in on one target and then analyze it. Going from target to garget makes the SUM mode go crazy, every target makes a low tone to start with, even quarters, it's a slow method to search in (waiting for the tone and the display to change). I like to search in All Metal a lot, so the Threshold and the ground balance are nice to have. I like the Cortes over the Vaquero only because I like glancing at a meter with each target. The Vaquero has a little edge on gold rings tho.
