Cortes

Worked a new Cortes yesterday and today off and on between it and another machine. Only used the stock coil and didn't try the 5.75 concentric. One of big reasons I bought the Cortes was because of the sum mode. Well I don't know what happened, I tried the sum mode only a couple times at the beginning, then the rest of the time I didn't use it. No reason why, just didn't seem to come to mind afterwards. I think when I found a target to work on, I just swept over the target a few times and watch the bars and sometimes looked at the I.D. but mostly what the bars indicated. I seem to have got enough information that I didn't have to use the sum mode, or should I have? I believe it just didn't come to mind to use the sum mode.
Anyway it would I.D. targets well and is an easy machine to use. I let my son use it and in a short time he would say coin, tab, or junk and then dig. He doesn't have much detecting experience and was doing good with the Cortes in a short time. Other machines he has used are the Fisher F-75, Tesoro Tejon and Cibola, and the ACE 250. He seems happy with the Cortes. I had a bit of a difficult time getting back from him.
I didn't pay any attention to the wording at the top of the display. I used it in both AM and discrimination at low settings. Sensitivity mostly at 7. Had to raise the coil at times, and it needs to be raised on surface targets to get a better I.D. in regards to the bars above the label.
We got lots of junk, 6 wheats, 2 merc's, and the rest was clad.
About the only negative is the labeling is a bit small and my eyeballs struggle some. I plan so far at using it again this coming weekend and will post again.
