I already have the Tejon and Cibola in the Tesoro line. In addition to the stock coils, I also have the 5.75 concentric and 5.75 widescan.
Lately I been reading up more on the Cortes. The sum mode gets my interest and then there are times at particular places where the depth reading may be an advantage. (i.e. @ one hunt spot the silver I found seem to be 2 inches and deeper - clad was surface to 2 inches. Another spot that is lawn, I will only go shallow and dig with care to keep from getting booted like others did).
Maybe I'll add the Cortes. Maybe I'll let the Cibola go and replace it with the Cortes. I wont let my Tejon go.
In addition to my Tejon and Cibola, I have the Explorer-II, F-75 (recent purchase), and ACE 250. I already let go a few other machines earlier this year, then another 4 machines go recently. Having only five machine don't feel right now.
So lately my mind keep drifting (duh) - to the Tesoro Cortes.
Would it be any advantage worth getting the Cortes since I already have the Tejon and Cibola?
Is the sum mode a well worth it feature?
Maybe I should just go get one and find out.

ah yes! can't have too many! Wish I could answer you on the Cortes but never had one in my hands. Have I thought about it? Well yes. Couple of years ago I was real, real close to doing it but finally said no. I have a TID detector but you know how it is. Sometimes you just think you need one more of something. I'm getting better though. I don't buy as much on the spur of the moment as I once did. Whatever you do good luck!

I went ahead and called the local dealer to say hello. In addition to that, he will have me a Cortes within a week. He didn't have a new one on hand so I'll have to wait about a week. Now I'll let him know to get a smaller concentric coil to along with it. I guess I'll add it in addition to my other machines. I decided not to let my Cibola go. Besides, saying a half a dozen machines sound better than 5.
Now I have the problem of what new machine I will have to get me for x-mas, which is only a few months away. :punch: :pulltab:

My dealer told me that the 5.75 coils on those type machines lose a bit of depth, unlike the 5.75 on the Tejon or Cibola. He recommended a 7" Troy coil for the Cortes. You might want to ask around about it. It is all I know, I took his word for it and got a Troy coil but I don't have the Cortes yet.

Cortes is really "HOT" on gold jewelry!! Until i got mine i always thought gold rings were mainly on the beaches, but i find with the Cortes it finds them in parks......on a regular basis!! You will get used to the Cortes quickly and grow to really like it!!You would be shocked to hear what kind of detectors.....members in our club; have traded away for the Cortes once they saw what the Cortes was capable of.

It's on the way and should be here in a week. A local dealer who currently didn't have the Cortes & DeLeon on hand took my Cortes order. I believe this will be my 4th machine this year from the dealer. I believe in supporting a local dealer. He does carry a number of machines on hand and a variety of accessories. It is nice to know that if I need something , I can usually make a phone call, and if he has what I need, it's just a short drive. He in most cases have what I am looking for, otherwise he will get it in short order. He treats me right so he is the first to get my business.
I don't see much negatives on the Cortes and that sum mode has got the best of me so far. I'm sure I'll be happy with it in a short time, besides, it's a Tesoro.
I just got home a bit ago from about a hour hunt and kept thinking about the Cortes, but that will come soon.

I just had a problem with a used DeLeon and the information that came back from the factory was that the S7 coil is not a good fit for the DeLeon/Cortes machines. If you do put one on you really should send it back to the factory with the coil, to get both of them re-tuned. You would be better of with the 575 coil.

Thanks for that, i was not really sure I wanted it anyway, that is not so much smaller than the stock coil anyway...

I am going to go ahead and order the 5.75

[size=medium]I had a Super 7 with my first Cort

I am a little bit confused about what all this translate's to in the real world. Are you saying that I may have trouble with any coil, especially a larger one? I have noticed no trouble with the Tejon and the smaller coil. Also, I am not sure what a Super 7 is. The coil I was offered to buy is a 7" Troy, from an X-2 I think. I am not sure if it is DD or concentric and I am not sure if I want it or not after reading some more about it. I am really confused about what to get right now. I guess having a lot of options in coils is good but I am overwhelmed by it all right now. I'll probably end up with an assortment...laff.

I'm normally confused anyway - just get more and more as the years go by.
Will have to see what my machine does after I try it as far as the ground balance when changing coil size. There must be a plus/minus specs for the machines and coils so some may be affected more or less than others - again - I dunno :help:

I'm glad I only added the 5.75 concentric so far to start - and sure glad Scully jumped in before I done any additional moves - :bouncy:

Sure glad I ordered the 5.75 concentric to go along with the stock coil on the Cortes, before making any further rash decisions.
Good information you post and it clears up a good bit.

Thanks, I ordered the 5.75 concentric also. I called and told Keith that I wanted it instead of the Troy coil. I may still try the Troy coil but now I will have something to compare it to.

I wonder if anyone can mod the Cortes so that the GB adjustment will work in Disc too. I bet the next generation Tesoro TID machine will have this feature.

Thanks for the help,

Julien

It was the standard coil on the Tesoro-made Shadow X2 for Troy Custom Detectors. It's based on the thin-profile housing used for their earlier water unit, but done in black and not filled to eliminate buoyancy. They are still available out there in the used detector and accessory market.
