Cortes?

I was wondering does the cortes have modulated audio where the deep targets sound softer than the shallow targets? How many of you use the cortes ? How would you compare it depth wise to other I.D. detectors? Will it hit a quarter 10'' in moderate soil? Thanks for all response's.

With my Cortes all target depths sound the same except deeper ones have a shorter beep. Lowering the Threshold softens deeper signals a little. I use the depth reading on the meter, works great to determine depth of small targets. Won't hit a 10" buried quarter in disc mode in moderate soil, don't know if it will in All Metal mode. All-in-all, my favorite of 4 detectors.

Hey jabbo what is the deepest silver you hit with the cortes? Just out of curiousity what other detectors do you have? I have an E-trac myself ,great detector but boy does the wieght and balance take a toll on your shoulder. Thats why I was looking for a light wieght back up for when my arm/shoulder get tired. I tryed the vaquero and tejon didn't like the single tone. But I did like the modulated audio. I am suprised the cortes doesn't have it. That's the way I like to hunt just listen for the softer tone's. That's what is nice about the E-trac you can adjust the volume gain to soften the audio on deeper targets. If you want to hunt deep silver just listen for the soft high tone. Anyways thanks for your replie.

Harold, Deepest silver? Don't know exact, maybe 6-7" Mercury, rarely find silver anymore. Like I said, the Threshold set low seems to soften the deeper signal a little. But I always look at the Depth meter. I like it better than the modulated audio that is on my ID Edge and it's accurate for coins when using the 8" donut or 8x9 coil but not accurate with the smaller coils. The depth meter is always on, no button to push to see the depth, as on my Fisher detectors. For a long time I didn't use the SUM mode, but when I did start using it I found that it is really helpful, it stabilizes the meter and has 9 tones. But the very weakest signals in Disc Mode can't be heard in SUM mode, most likely because of the extra processing that SUM requires. Cortes, Golden uMax, ID Edge, CZ7aPro.

I notice you have a CZ-7a pro. I know you have dug deep silver with that machine! I have had my share of cz's and they are depth demons! But they sure do like deep nails. I guess that just goes to show there is no perfect metal detector.

Hi Harold ,
You can always lighten up the E Trac by putting a Sun Ray X-8 coil on it ....You will have better seperation and about the same depth as the stock coil .... or you could loose the weight altogether , and sell me your E Trac !! ( at a reduced rate of course ) ....Jim

I bought a sunray x-8 coil last year and ever since have been using it about 80% of the time! Boy you are rite about the weight it make's a huge differrence! And you are rite about the depth I dug a merc yesterday that was a measured 9.5'' and 1 foot away I dug a silver quarter that was just a hair under 10''. That sunray x-8 is an awesome coil! And a arm/shoulder saver.

I almost never use the CZ on land, great at the beach tho.
