Hi folks, looking for a new detector. I've been lurking around the Fisher fourms for awhile checking out the new detector line. I've used Garrett's for the last15 years and am now in the market for a new detector since Garrett seems like they have nothing new to offer. So I'm looking for onfo on the Cortes. Target response, Depth ...ECT. Please no fluff just the facts.
Thanks

I have a Cortes and it is a great machine. But you should know it is not by any means a new machine. The Cortes was introduced in the 2001 time frame. It will get 5-7 inches on a dime and I have dug quarters at 10. I have won a competition hunt with it and have tried a little prospecting. I have found rings and gold jewelery as well as some relics although I do not try to go after them. The ID is about as accurate as any high-end machine and much better than the Garrett Ace 250. Of course the Tesoro lifetime warranty is also something to consider.

Hope this helps.

I've had my Cortes about 3 years now. It's a great detector, easy to use and only 2.75 Lbs. Whether I'm in Disc mode or All Metal, the display shows all of the target ID info and the depth at all times. The knobs are great, no menues to scroll through. The SUM mode has 9 tones but I seldom use the tones because the screen display info tells me all I need to know before I dig. Sometimes I use SUM if the display is jumpy, it averages the reading too. In air tests it correctly ID's a quarter up to 8 inches when sweeping the coil fast. A faster sweep ID's deep coins better on my other two metered detectors too. The Cortes is not a depth monster but it goes as deep as I want to dig.
