Cortes VID Numbers on Nuggets

Corteser

New member
I am going to be using my Cortes with a Troy Super 7 coil in the Arizona desert for nugget hunting in a couple of weeks. I am planning to detect in all metal mode with tight check on ground balance. My question is in regard to VID numbers. Will a gold nugget ever register zero (0)? I was hoping to use this as an iron elimination technique. I would dig any target with a VID >0.

Any experience you have had with the Cortes and nuggets is appreciated.

Hi Jim, I have a Cortes too, but have never used it for nugget shooting...
I can tell you that I have found my share of nuggets down here "Down-under" using big Minelab PI's...

Our nuggets are often associated with ironstone, ~ I don't know if nuggets over your way are also
associated with ironstone; but if they are, and you use iron disc, you will also disc out some nuggets that are attached to ironstone.
As far as TID numbers go, nuggets are of infinite sizes and shapes ~ so numbers won't mean much to you!
Gold is not high up in the TID ranges, and smaller nuggets are probably going to indicate down in the foil zone.
I don't know the Troy Super 7 coil, but for nugget shooting I'd suggest a wide scan ( DD ) to deal with any mineralised
ground you might encounter ( usually associated with gold country here in Australia.) :smoke:
