I know alot of you guys use a cortes and I know hardly any of them come up for sale either. Also I know it identifies coins @ 95 not leaving much room on for cherry picking the silver out of the clad in parks and all. But I never knew it had a sum mode and will kind of make it a tone ID machine. So how about guys fill me in on your thoughs on the cortes and all that good stuff about why you use it instead of your old favorite now, Tim

Tim,I do not have a Cortes but from what I have heard it should ID zinc pennies different from a quarter ,and it shows the depth all the time so you could cherry pick just the deeper targets. The sum mode is spring loaded,so you can not use the tone ID all the time.

I do have a Cortez and I guess you could say I am experienced user.

Really SUM Mode is useless as is the tones it puts out. Might be a good selling point but to me useless while hunting.

All coins do not put out 95. Nickels are 24 and most rings are 24 or lower except for Silver.

Zinc pennies are usually in the upper 70s to low 80s range everything else hits at 95 if it is not on edge or really deep (over 6 inches)

Screen is too small to use the little coin indicator so you mainly depend on the VID number shown. This to me is quite accurate.

Cortes needs a deleon screen but Deleon needs the Notch settings.

The only Detector I would might trade my Cortes for is a new version of the Tesoro Golden Saber II that has some depth or a Deleon that has notch.

Maybe I should have said diffence between a clad dime and a silver dime on the VDI. But all in all I like it and it really seems to be a nice machine.

No difference between Clad and Silver
