Cortes Threshold Tone in all metal

Is it normal function for the Tesoro Cortes to momentarily loose it's threshold tone after passing over a target?. I was testing (getting familiar with) my Cortes, after ground balancing, in all metal. I noticed a nice constant threshold whilst swinging...when I passed over a target the threshold would go silent and the machine would bark as I went over the target. The threshold would return after being removed from the target.

Tesoro's chart claims that the (all metal) mode is (non motion)....I find that it seems to be necessary to move the coil. No motion means that I should get a rise in tone as I only approach a target right (peaking when I'm on top)? I shouldn't have to swing and I shouldn't be loosing the threshold.

Is there something wrong with my Cortes?

Nothing wrong with your Cortes. That is just the way it is designed. It has a very fast retune speed. You'll grow accustomed to it fairly fast.

Thanx Mike,

I got it. No problem getting used to it. Very impressed with this machine. It caught me off guard.

It goes negative over the target, then the machine retunes and swings a bit high giving you an audio on the leading edge and the trailing edge of your sweep. You will notice that it seems impossible to "pinpoint" these targets.

I have another machine that when passing over a target thats discriminated, it will pull the threshold into the null audio region. When pulling the coil from the target, it would release the null, overshoot and cause a momentary audio response. Seems to be more pronounced on heavily nulled targets.

That makes sense. I'll bet the Cortes does this in (all metal). I'm used to the ml's that null over a target and then return a very low tone (indicating that the last target was an iron one).

I just assumed that the Cortes all metal circuit was vco like the White's dfx...where the threshold was constant and just changed in pitch when approaching the target.

I will be practicing in a test garden with the Cortes. I've chosen this machine to take into the field with me. It is so light. Nothing like the machines I'm used to carrying.

Very impressed with the machines sensitivity and depth. The discrimination circuit, especially with sum selected, is very accurate. It's beating the ml's and other so called high end machines I've used. Very delightful machine. It has made detecting fun again.

Well I think you've nailed it. Thank You

If listening to a threshold tone and you pass over a rejected item your tone should/could drop. Iron objects should make this most pronounced along with hot rocks.
