Cortes Sum Mode tones.

Did an air test today and discovered that each BAR has its own audio pitch in SUM mode. Haven't been using the SUM mode since I got the machine. During todays air test I noticed that the IRON and FOIL bars give the lowest pitch, 5 cent bar gives a higher tone pitch, round tab bar is higher, square tab bar is higher yet, and so on. Also noticed that a wheaty gives a higher tone pitch than a zinc penny in SUM mode. Quarters have a higher pitch than dimes. Took me 9 months to learn that each bar has a distinct audio tone. Test was done using foil, gold rings, nickle, pulltabs, and coins in discriminate mode and switching to SUM mode on each target.

I've been very interested in that SUM mode on the Cortes, Jabbo.

Is it working well for you in trashy areas?

I have little musical talent. I doubt the many tones would help me...

rmptr, Just yesterday I learned how to use the SUM mode so I can't comment much about it yet. But the detector is great separating targets close to each other, as all Tesoros are. A different tone is tied to the 9 bar graphs, and that is great. The instruction manual says that the tones are tied to the bar graphs in SUM mode, but somehow I
mis-undetrstood it. The tones are distinctly different from each other and easy to tell apart. A momentary ( spring loaded switch ) puts the detector in SUM mode. When the switch is released, it returns to regular discriminate mode, monotone sound.

Thanks Jabbo,

I'll watch for progress reports then?

Cortes is just a beautiful machine.

I figure its like like a Jaguar run against someone else's Corvette, and another's Mustang.

It's a nice machine. I'd like to have one.

rmptr, Today I went to a local park to put the tones to work. I like having them, even tho the bar graphs tell me the same thing. Zinc penny has its own bar graph/tone. Copper penny and dime share a bar graph and have a higher tone than zincs. Also, the SUM mode helps stabilize the ID No. after several passes. SUM is really cool.
