Cortes question?

Did some trading been wanting the Cortes for a while finally came in this week. What would be a good second coil. Looking at hunting a lot of sidewalk strips and trashey places looking at the 5.75" and 7" Thanks for your help.

I think either would do you pretty well. The 5.75 should have the edge in heavier trash although I've had good results with the 7" on my Tesoros.

I have the 4" "hockey puck", 7" Troy "Super-seven", the stock coil and the 10"x12" for my Cortes. I had the 5.75" but between the 4" and the 7" it just seemed redundant so I traded it. You can't beat the 4" for trashy areas or for getting in between things. The 7" is also a great coil, good for trashy or small areas and where small gold may be lurking without losing too much depth . In fact I used it on my Cortes in Arizona prospecting last year.

I suppose that if I was going to get just one extra coil other than the stock coil it would be the 5.75". It is a good compromise between the 4" and the 7". All of the coils have their place in my arsonal, but to be honest the stock coil will do fine in almost all situations except where physical size is the limitation.

Good Hunting!!

I pretty well agree with Corteser. I have found over the years in my detecting that I end up using the stock or SMALLER coils way more than the larger ones. I guess if I were a cache hunter or die hard relic hunter that might not be the case, but for coin shooting and general hunting the stock and smaller coils are the way to go.

I haven't tried the 7 - I use the 5.75 and it gets good depth and separation. I was going to get a 4 but ended up with the 5.75 instead. I'll stick to the stock coil for the open clean areas.
