Cortes or F 70

Looking for a new detector, which one would be the better choice and why? The Fisher F 70 at $650 or the Tesoro Cortes at $680. I mostly go to parks and schools, would like to do some relic hunting in the future. Would be used in Wisconsin.

That's a tuff one to answer but I'll say this, right now I'm very concerned about Fisher's warrenty. I've heard too many horror stories about awful service.

The only F machine I've used so far is the F2 and I traded shortly after receiving it.

The F70? I couldn't tell you. And as for the Cortes I'd look for a used machine. I've seen very good deals on near mint used Cortes. The same is true of the DeLeon. I just passed up a deal on a nice DeLeon for $270. lots of people think the detector is the whole answer to treasure. So they keep jumping from one machine to another. These people are great because they save me a lot of money when I buy their used detectors.

Like I said in the Fisher forum, I would give the edge to the F70 too, but I wouldn't buy it on-line, as you may end up having to return it because of quality problems. And I sure wouldn't buy a used one. The only way I would buy an F70 (or any modern Fisher) is to have it in my hands and look it over carefully. But that's just my opinion, for whatever that's worth.

Thanks folks for all the information and thoughts on a new detector, now the adventure of picking one begins. :twodetecting:

What about the Xterra 70? People seem to like those, and there is always used ones for sale. (I'm not sure if that's a good sign though)

Hi i had the oppertunity to talk to a guy in Laredo, Tx. who had a Fisher 1265X
metal detector that he had sent it into Fisher 7 times and they never fixed it right
the ground balance had gone out on the machine so he shipped it to Keith Willis
and he said that Fisher had trashed the 1265X so what does that tell you about

1st Texas Ltd. aka Bounty Hunter, Fisher

so theres NO way id buy a FISHER or BOUNTY HUNTER style machine

BUY A CORTEZ

I'd call Gene from Badger Metal Detectors at 608-213-6622. He is a straight shooter, and sells both Tesoro's and Fisher's. He helped test the Tejon for Tesoro, so he knows a thing or two. Good luck.

I dunno about you, but if yer eyeballs ain't up to par (like mine), my Cortes display and labels are on the squishy small side to me. I use both TID and non-TID machines, although I like and prefer to hunt by audio, and I like the audio of Tesoro.
I don't have the F-70, I have the F-75. Don't know how much difference there is, but I like the analog generated like sound on my Tesoro's. My F-75 gives more of a digital generated sound, at least to me. I see pros and cons to each so I have kept the F-75 and a hand full of Tesoro's. Who know what will change come next year, I don't know.
If you have a dealer within distance that carries both, or maybe a local club, you might be able to get hands on both to help decide.
Good Luck

I have Fishers, but Tesoros remain my 'go to' machines.

Is that display so important? Perhaps the V or Golden might be a good choice???

...there's nothing like a brand spanking new machine, with a lifetime warranty...
(Well, except for an old friend that has performed well for many years.)

Best
