Cortes and Bad Ground

I took the Cortes to a different place this am and it did not do very well. The fixed ground balance in disc did not agree with the ground I was hunting. The detector chattered like crazy and did not stop until I turned the sensitivity down to 5 and 1/2. I could not find a coin deeper than 4 inches. I checked the ground balance in all metal and it was at least a half a turn off from where I hunted yesterday. I got the Explorer Se out and immediately started finding 8 inch deep wheat pennies. I can live with these slight setbacks if places like this are rare. The difference between where I hunted yesterday and today was like night and day. One final observation. The Corte's meter remained extremely accurate even though I lost considerable depth.

I'm interested to know what people have to say about this. I just purchased a Cortes 2 weeks ago and haven't had a chance to use it yet other than in my back yard. My yard is very mineralized and my Exp II even has some problems with depth. The Cortes picks up all coins in my test garden which are placed between 6-7 inches. I am pleased with this, but I'd like to know how it will do in the type of ground you are talking about.

How did it do in all metal after ground balancing? With TID I've wondered how it would be to hunt in all metal most of the time and use the ID as your discrimination. I've thought that might be the way to hunt in difficult ground if I ever pick up a Cortes. So far, I haven't hit any ground that caused that problem with the Deleon.
