Found penny size coin its thick and heavy but corroded and i have no idea what it can be.How do i get cleaned to id it?Or is it even a coin, found it along river bed where indians settlers once roamed.

That coin has seen its day if it is a coin.It looks more like iron rust rather copper. Old rusted iron can give off a coin signal at least when its in the ground.I wouldn't expect to much out of that object. There are better finds out there .Good Luck

[size=large]just for fun, put a magnet to it. that would rule iron or not i would think.

Unless you found it at the beach. Sometimes coins near iron gets coated and also encrusts shells, rocks.

Many of the coins that I find here in Maryland are almost destroyed. I am not sure if that is state wide, but in our county (Anne Arundel) there must be something in the soil like maybe it is acidic or has salt deposits. You cannot cleanup a coin like the one that you have and I cannot clean most of what I find here.

i found a few of them in an old park that was loaded with wheats. The steel rots away like iron, thus an iron coin

Keep it, you dont find too many of them. Good conversation piece at least.

It almost looks to me like an electrical box slug. I'm in construction, and see electricians dropping these all over the place. Also, I have dug some up. Just a guess...

Looks like a crusty Zincoln to me...New Zinc Pennies do not last long in the ground...
