......Are these common finds for u guys? I'm hoping you guys have more experience with this kind of stuff. These finds were 9 to 6 inches deep on river banks. The spearhead type points were found 3 miles apart on a river bank in Wisconsin. The awl type point was found in upper Wis.
The Copper Culture website was very helpful but didn't explain how to determine if it is from native Americans or not, or how to date the copper finds. Maybe there isn't an easy way to date them. I'm hoping to find out if my finds are (200, 1000 or 8000 years old??? I went to the local library and they had nothing to help me with identification.

Thanks, BK

The Field museum in Chicago has an excellent curator...also the art institute in Chicago used to have an ancient armor and weapons curator...They at the Field museum would have the best interest and they do have some tips and heads on display...
Also. the Venetian casino in Las Vegas has a antiquities expert in one of their mall stores, (can't think of the name)...
However, because it may be a significant find, the Wisconsin State historical society will have some answers too...
I probably would grid the area and use screen boxes to sift the deeper parts of the find...
LUCKY LUCKY YOU.....

I don't know if they can be dated, one was found here a couple years ago and supposedly still had some wood on it, so it was suppose to be sent in for carbon dating. I've found very little on the Internet on the copper culture Indians other than three sites have been dated back to 7000 years one in Minnesota, one in Oconto,WI near me and one in the U.P.. The spears points and awls turn up here in Menominee, though i personally haven't found one. For some interesting reading check out Michigan's Prehistory's Mysteries . I'm not a big reader but couldn't put this book down, its kind of a collaboration of findings and theories on the copper culture. Many things i never heard of, with pieces of artifacts to back them up.i believe they need more people studying this culture.

What I wouldn't give to have one!! You are a lucky dog...HH Dennis in Idaho
