I posted this on another forum as a request - thought I'd put it here also.
Here's some of the small pieces of rocks I have in a railroad display. They were examples of what they hauled along the lines to the smelter.
Every so often they would fall out and lay there for many decades - till I picked them up.

First pic is malachite. This makes beautiful jewelry. Years back I had a big hunk and worked it down to nothing setting them in jewelry pieces.

This pic shows Azurite in the middle , chrysophase on the left & another malachite on the right.
Lastly, here's a bracelet & ring I made from a piece of malachite just like the one in the first pic. It is formed in layers and if you cut it just right you get this banding or bull's eye effect.
And that's the lesson on jewelry for the night Some city parks & junior colleges offer classes on this hobby if you are interested. That's where I first learned it.
