[attachment 27677 copperpoint.JPG][attachment 27676 Picture071.jpg]I found this item at a beach about a mile from the old Royal Naval Dockyard which was one of the main british naval bases from the 1700's onwards. It looks like some kind of tool to me but what type I can't say and I'm in the construction business. Any thoughts?

Could be a marlinspike, a tool for working with rope. Basically it gets between the strands of a rope so they can be seperated. Really useful when you need to splice two ends together. I could be wrong, just an idea.

I had always thought that marlinspikes were made of wood so that didn't occur to me. I can't believe it as I used to be a sailor just not tall ship stuff.

Cheers,
