Copper Pennies ?

I only save wheats. Everything else get recycled.

Thanks McDave. The ground is frozen here so I have been going through some rolled pennies that I got from the bank. Believe it or not, I did find a 1909 , but no S or VDB. Looks like I am headed to Coin Star.

How many rolls do you buy at a time? Someone told me I should just buy a box from the bank so I have something to do while I'm waiting for spring. Not sure how many rolls are in a box, is'nt it like 50 rolls or $25?

I have started saving pre-"82" copper pennies and can about 75% of the time tell just by looking whether or not it is copper or zinc....for sure
if it came out of the ground all crusted up. Melt value is about 2 1/2 times the value of copper penny. I just throw the "undecideds" (which include
"82's" because the change came in 82 and may or may not be copper) in a pile and run them by the SE Pro which by the tone tells me 100% copper or zinc.
The underlined paragraph below is a "copy/paste from the link below and might be of interest. HH

All of this really matters only if you care

I just bought $10 worth this time. I ended up with 233 coppers. Nice surprise was that I found three Wheaties 1909 plain, 1938 plain and a 1953D. It looked like some of the coins had been dug up....could have been some of mine that had gone through Coin Star and back to the bank. Actually did not take that long to go through them. I think I will get $50 worth on the next trip. Can't wait for warmer weather.

Talked to a guy that was maki g $100's of dollars a week sorting and melting copper pennies before the ban on melting them. He was getting a good return on his time spent. Melt value now is arou d 2.8 cent per penny well over 100% return can not make that any where else.
