COPPER COIN HELP?

Low-Boy/LCPM

Active member
Found this have no idea if it is a coin???

Low-Boy,

That is a tough one. Not too much to go on there. My thought is this could be the back of a modern dime with a lot of corrosion. That area that looks a little like the number "1" could maybe be the column of the torch, and I think I can make out some letters on the right hand side that might match up with the word "America" from the back of a dime. If you lay a modern dime on top of that, how close are they in size?

I would concur with Brainwasher. It looks like you can make out some of the torch. I have found some corroded modern dimes that have the color of a copper coin and although not as badly corroded as this one, the part that remains best on the back is the torch. Does the size match for a dime?

My first thought was dime too, but then to the right of center, there are some darker areas, three of them that look perhaps like Chineese markings. That very well could be because of the mining in your area.

to see if there is the clad layers? At this point its so bad,try a file on the edge if its too corroded-I don't think you stand to loose anything. I have Roman coins that are so bad some are just greenish corroded or smooth "slugs."
