Copper coin found with large 1 on reverse, about the size of a dime

I am sorry, I don't have a pic yet, but I found this apparently copper coin, a bit thinner than a dime but about the same size, in NC. You can clearly see a large, thick, number 1 on the back. the obverse side seems to have a faint image of an eagle, perhaps even the type that is on the old German coins. Does anyone have any ideas based on this description? Can't be too many coins the size of a dime that have a large thick number 1 on the back. I found this coin near where I found 3 indian pennies. Thanks for any help. Bryan

I don't think that the 1 is that fancy. The thickness is correct. What does the other side of this coin look like? I am at work now, so I don't have the coin with me. that may be it though.

When you get a chance look up one pfenning, theres different types..yours may be one of them

I think you may be right. It is not in good shape, but I think this may be it. Thanks for the help. I found a 1917 wheatie near the 3 indian heads. The photo would put the pfenning in the same era with the large 1, and what appeared to be an eagle shape, which would be the worn image shown in this photo. Thanks for the leads fellas. I think we found it. I will try to post a pic another day of the one I found.
