copper ball

My Friend found a ball at a farm . It was down 8 inches.We had it tested at work and it has high copper content. The ball is 1 3/4 inches round and is about 1lb or two in weight.Would a early cannon ball of some type be made of coppper . Oh also there looks like letters of FD on it. It may not be but it just looks like it. Any ideas ?

Are you sure it is solid??? It could be a number 8 sleigh bell filled with mud. Send photos!!

Yes it is solid. No openings in it but you can tell it was a pourded in a mold.
