Cooool! 89 year old token!

On Mother's Day I was over at the girlfriend's mothers...grilling some steaks, hanging out.

She lives in an old neighborhood in the city, built about 1915.
I have hit her lawn before and so far have found 2 wheaties..1932 and 1944, and an old toy plane.

She also lives about one block from an old park that officially opened in the mid 20's, but was in use for years before that.

I was using the F2 and was scanning an area of the park I have not hit before.
Found some old junk, a few modern coins, I was looking for silver but no luck in that department.
However, I did find this token which is one of the coolest things I have found so far.
It was about 5 inches down, so encrusted and covered with dirt that rubbing it in the field revealed no clue to what it was.
I thought it was a large knockout plug from an old electrical box or something along those lines because It was not heavy like a coin and pretty thin.

I took it back to the house and stuck it under running water at the sink and this beauty emerged.
My eyes popped...and it had a date!

I have learned this store had offices in Birmingham, Montgomery, Oklahoma City, Dallas, and Washington, D.C.
Maybe more, but not a ton of info out there on the store or this token.

They did make and distribute this token at all their locations, and they were good for the year 1922 only.

Very large size, as big as a half dollar...

I just love finding little bits of rare history and odds and ends.
Finds like these make me very happy!

Kinda crazy that I feel so giddy after digging just a silly token, but it really ties into the history of this city and I love the history part of what we do.
I believe it might be pretty rare because I have not seen any Birmingham ones on the token site, (I added one to Richardstokens), and that makes me even happier.
