Cool place I found today, what do you think?

well as I said the other day I made it out to the woods to check out this abandoned house, I went to scout it out, and take some photos. Can you believe it that when I got back there my camera would NOT work??? These pictures are all from my cell phone. Thank God I had it with me!

I did take my detector back there, but it was almost useless, there is a LOT of trash people have dumped and with the snow I couldn't see it all. I need to return when all snow is gone so I can check AROUND the dump areas, hoping to find some dropped goodies. I am sure there is stuff to be found here.

 That looks like a good spot. Don't detect it yet. I'll fly out in the spring and show you how to :detecting: silver:smoke:

the hardest thing is gonna be getting around the trash, I am wondering if a sniper coil would be good here, how deep are they good for? We found some catalogs, magazines etc, in the house latest date we could find was 1943, I am assuming this place has been abandoned for a LONG time.

"Sniper coil"

More words here------ Go back when it gets warmer. Now go buy one of those wide job site magnets. Not the little round ones on a stick but the wide ones that you roll over the ground. Take the wheels off of it so you can drag it on the ground. Then rake you a nice clean area to hunt like 10 ft x 20 ft. Then drag your magnet over the ground scrubbing as you go. Your magnet WILL be full of nails and bits and pieces of iron. Then detect.

not too sure about raking there is a ton of undergrowth, hard to see in the photos, but when the snow is gone I will go back, need $$$ for the sniper coil!

You better get to gettin'. I'm searching all the aerial maps looking for it now:rofl:

Don't forget to look for old bottles in that shed (and house) It might take some digging. My first treasure was about 20 bottles I dug at 10 years old. It was in a shed just about like in your picture. 38 years later I still have them. One bottle says Dr. Baker's Pain Relief. I also have a tiny strychnine bottle with a scull and crossbones with the cork still in it. I found over 30 small cars and toys under a house where they had dropped down through a large knot hole. You have a small time capsule there so don't let it go to waste. If you don't save it some other person is going to light it on fire for kicks. Then how would you feel? Don't forget to look in the attic!
Take a regular shovel with you too! Dig then flip the dirt then check. Retrieve your silver then kick the dirt back.

Take a string trimmer with you and clean it up. I have never done it but you could take a 4ft x 4ft piece of plywood and lay it over the tall grass. Sweep over the plywood then move it to dig of course. Cut a hand hole in the plywood so you can carry and move it better.

Don't limit yourself to just AROUND the house, if you went inside to find the magazines I assume it's safe enough to go in and look for caches. Door sills, window sills, floorboards, rafters, stair casing, jambs, places where kids might stick a coin, all the usual suspects.

my friend and I went thru the house and it is amazing how it looks like someone just up and left, has old furniture (totally destroyed) springs sticking out. An old piano, someone has removed all the ivory keys. Old shoes, clothes. Craziest thing is where the snow blew in the windows you can see deer tracks where they have been coming into the house  here is a pic of my buddy lookin out second story window

oh and there is a basement, but noway I was going down there w/o some kind of light. If it has a dirt floor I will detect there too.

Nothing in that basement will be moving too fast this time of year. All you have to do is run faster than your buddy anyway!

neat place to hunt!!!

I wouldn't mind the ol' F-20 Farmall. Looks like a great place. I have a few places similar to check out, my :garrett:is due UPS any day now. This is all new to me, never had a detector before.
