Out for a winter hunt today. It was 14 degrees F(-10 C) with lots of sunshine. I went earlier in the morning, to avoid all of the tobogganers. I went up and down the hill 3 times and just had a blast!

I had concerns about the electronics getting too cold, so I wrapped some head gear around the brains box and inserted a handwarmer inside the fabric, against the plastic.

Here is a pic of those handwarmers. They cost $1.50 for a package of two, and last about 6 hours. Pretty cheap for protecting the electronics inside. Heck, I wouldn't even last 6 hours in this cold.
After about an hour and a half, people started showing up and that was my cue to leave. I managed to get $5.53..... some rusty nails and pulltabs. There were many more good signals on the hill, but it was frozen solid undernieth the snow, so I will have to try the hill in the spring. Another bonus of the "ACE" 250 is that it loves Toonies and Loonies ($1.00 & $2.00 coins). It locks right on and really barks at them. A real bonus if you hunt here.
Below is a pic of my finds.

good to know it can be used in such cold weather.Good luck:))

I've never seen anyone more devoted to detecting than you John! I've seen snow, ice, and water searches you've done. Must have some limitation?
Ever count up your finds? Enjoy your posts.

JOHN! Come back to Muskyville! lol j/k and nice finds. I may pick up a Ace 250 soon. Lots of good reports for this machine.
I am finding winter hunting is very nice. Not a lot of people out on cold mornings

MUSKY hunting is for relics, Garrett hunting is for coins ,(at least in my world). Yah.....I'm always being pulled from either side. But by golly, this ACE is a lot of fun and finds coins easily!

I quit smoking 9 years ago and allowed myself to buy my first Garrett back then. I think I just substituted one addiction for another. Great tradeoff though. I'm healthier, richer and alive.
Life is good!

Nice finds John. You got more balls than me to get out in that cold. How do you like that little yellow coin snatcher?
Bill

It may not cost a whole lot, but it sure doesn't behave like a entry-level machine, that's for sure.

John, next thing you will be showing us is how ya chop holes in the ice to search the swimming areas! I can't imagine searching in the snow since I've lived in Southern California for most of my life. I do know I would be sticking those warmers a couple of more places. HH.... Bill (BRRRRR I'm cold just looking at those pictures.)

Look for Johns post from last spring, him in waders with a soda on a floating chunk of ice!!! Bit much for this old southern boy!

You have got me thinking now Bill. It's no wonder that I can't sleep at night with all these Ideas gong through my head.

IT'S BETTER TO BE OUTSIDE METAL DETECTING WISHING YOU WERE INSIDE NOT METAL DETECTING, THEN IT IS TO BE INSIDE NOT METAL DETECTING WISHING YOU WERE OUTSIDE METAL DETECTING.......:grin
