Cool find in remote Alaska

I am fairly new to detecting, and enjoy the outings I have. It seems like I find something interesting and unexpected every time I go. I was recently able to go out to a remote island that was a soldier base in 1942... ww2. I had some time to kill so I took the MXT PRO with me and did some exploring. I found all kinds of neat items like shell casings, shrapnel, all kinds of coins and neat stuff. I found one coin that I could barely read the date 1901 !!! It turned out to be an old quarter. WOW!! This is by far the oldest coin that I have found yet. Its pretty cool to pull something out of the soil that is 110 years old !!! I have not cleaned it because I dont want to damage it, but I am going to take it to a coin shop and get some advice. anyhow, good luck to all and thanks for the fun posts !!! Mike

BIG CONGRATULATIONS Mike! That's one nice coins. Don't you love the eagle wings and design on the back of it? I think that's one of my favorite quarters because of it. Does it have a mint mark? To clean it, only use soap (no abrasion type) and water. No clothes, just wash with your fingers while under water. That should take care of it and not damage it. Again, congrats on your find and here's to more many many super finds. HH, Nancy
