Cool beach hunt

The water was just unhuntable today so i grabbed the SE to do some dry/wet sand hunting. Got to a small beach i hunt often and there were 2 guys with detectors leaving and 2 more out there swinging. I almost left but said what the heck there still has to be something for me left. So i did the introductions to the guys and started grid-ding it off. Id forgotten how deep the SE could go on the beach since i hadnt hunted with it in a while. The first quarter i dug was so deep i thought i was digging a can. Had to be 16 inches down. Then came a couple more at the same depth on the damp sand. Seems everything i was digging was deep deep. The SE was smokin on the coins. Picked up 3 silver earrings and the silver bracelet in the dry sand that the others has missed based on their scoop tacks. None of them had a machine that would work the wet sand. I headed down at the waters edge and got a pull tab kind of sound.... turned out to be a GF ring. One of the guys was older and had set down on the sand still talking to me.... as i popped out the GOLD 14K size 7 ban. His only comment i got to get me one of those machines. The the rest of the day was trash and coins. Some of those pull tabs were as deep as those quarters. Note the tiny pieces.... i just kept a few of those for show. Some i got hits on i never could see so i didnt waste much time on them. But the SE sure finds tiny targets and those werent on the surface. It was windy and cool out there and even colder tonight. Looks like there may be a couple more sand days before i can hit the water again.

Nice stuff Dew .... You were the master of the sand for sure. You should put tape over the Minelab logo so you don't have to give away your "secret weapon" ..

This one was a wide band gold in color marked GF ... there was a thin ban inside that is gold. Kind of cheap, but they do buy them at ARA. Me?... good lord have you seen what Charles NY keeps bringing to the table?

GF stands for Gold Filled ... which refers to a metal item that has a thin sheet of gold applied to a base metal core but the layer is thicker than in plated items. The layer of gold in gold-filled items is about one hundred times thicker than gold-plated items. Newer items contain markings that indicate how much and what type of gold was used in the layer. A marking of 1/20 12K G.F. means that the piece is at least 1/20th 12K gold by weight. In gold-filled products, the gold layer must be at least 1/20th (5%) of the overall product, by weight. Any purity of gold may be used; most gold-filled products are made with 12k or 14k gold. The purity of gold used can be determined by the notation in front of the words gold-filled. 14/20 Gold-filled and 14k Gold-filled both refer to a gold-filled product in which 14k gold has been bonded to the base metal core. Likewise, 12/20 Gold-filled and 12k Gold-filled indicate that 12k gold has been bonded to metal.

Dew, great finds. I haven't had the SE on the beach yet but I can't wait. When I was there in August I didn't have the SE yet but the Safari did a great job - it killed them all on quarters, I couldn't believe how many I found, some were very deep too. Had a guy with a Garrett something-or-another who walked up to me and said, "I might have guessed a Minelab was on the berach."
Thanks for sharing your day,
Don

We often get questions about the SE working on the beach. Id say Charles has showed us it works well. The get pretty tiny stuff and i didnt have a problem hearing either of those gold rings. VA Max has water proofed one and it does a bang up job in he water with the pro coil. I was using the SEF and was running the sensitivity around 22 as well as the IM at 22. Wasnt any need to open it up there just wasnt much on the beach.... but holes. I was digging such deep holes for those quarters on guy asked me if i was digging aluminum cans. I told him no, but if he was looking for some id point them out to him as i went lol. He was a nice old fellow that had to take a break about every 10 min. He said id ask you if you want to buy a detector, but you obviously dont need one. Seems he had about 20 of them for sale. All N all it was a fun day. Thanks guys.
