Hello there. I am a DFX owner, and I really like the machine. However I keep hearing all the good things about the Etrac.
How is this machine better than the DFX? What will it do that the DFX will not?

Thank you!

In my opinion, I think the Etrac is the best in the given technology we have concerning metal detecting. Having said that, the truth of the matter is the best detector for you is the one you know the best. I have friends that are using 12 year old detectors and finding great finds. One buddy that is very seasoned in the hobby will ask me to swing over a target he has found and asked me to tell him what it is. I guess he can't tell for sure what he is hearing. They love some of the features on my Etrac and they love the depth it will find small targets, but the bottom line is they find great finds as well. I have new to the hobby friends that have Etracs and they are struggling. I'll give the reason I bought mine. Knowing treasure hunting, metal detecting is mainly a lot of luck..... (swinging your coil over the right spot) and I spend a lot of time engaging in the hobby....I wanted the latest and greatest technology out there to put the odds in my favor. The Etrac does this better than any other machine out there.

No comparison in my opinion, and I have had them both. I may not have given the DFX enough time but I do know the day that I got my SE, my finds started going way up. I sold my DFX the day after I hunted with a guy that had an SE. He would hit targets and let me follow him. I would either not hit the target at all or get a signal that I wouldnt dig. He would dig the targets and prove that they were good targets. Let's just say that I was greatly impressed that day. I think that the Etrac is going to better than the SE. This is just one person's experience, though. Good luck on your decision!!

You are getting sleeper and sleeper........thinking of the e-trac and the way silver sounds....your eyes are getting heavier and heavier....slowly you are falling into a deep ...deep sleep....all you hear is blulope bulopu blulope....the sound of silver...The e-trac god is esendding into your head...as you slowly see the coil of the e-trac swinging and sing out bluope blulopu bluope..the silver ..I must- must have the silver.....when you awake you will remember nothing about this , just that you where on the computer..........................when I count three ,you will awake....one........two............three.........AWAKE!!!!

I have used all types of detectors over the last 40 years including the DFX. I will not make a side-by-side comparison. All I will say is you will find more deeper and a lot faster with the E-Trac. You can go back over your heavily hunted sites and find what you have missed. HH...Jesse.

The DFX was first and it barely found anything compared to the others. I think the XLT is a better unit than the DFX.

Look at my post on this forum "Silver Finds in the last month" to see what it can do. I NEVER had such quantity of finds with the DFX,and I am finding them in areas I had already hunted. The DFX searches according to CONDUCTIVITY. The E-Trac searches in TWO methods: CONDUCTIVITY AND FEROUS content. ET also finds stuff deeper-much deeper-than my DFX did. Try someone else's ET, giving yourself a chance to learn it over 50 hours and you'll agree. It is really obvious.

I like your post Lillo :) I owned the DFX for several years and hunted several times with the late Dave Z. who was moderator of the DFX Classroom. I learned some great tips from him and spent many, many hours learning the machine in and out. Dave Z. compared his machine to mine also and said I had bought one of the deeper seeking ones. I enjoyed the machine but I had several friends with Minelab Explorers, (now they have SE's) and there were many times they picked up stuff I didn't hear at all with the DFX. The deepest dime I ever found was 8-9" using all metal and only found one silver coin in a well hunted park in Albany, I have a friend with an SE and he finds lots and lots of silvers there still. He was picking up coins right behind me to show me about the Minelab's capabilities. I am shopping for one and going over the budget right now. I won't sell the Shadow X5 i own now but don't regret trading it for the x5. My silver count went down but the weight and loads of old buttons and nickels made up for it. Now I'll go back with the Minelab and clean house when I get it.
Thanks again Lillo,
Brandon
