Converted the Tiger Shark coil bolt to something substantial

I am having to give the Tiger Shark anti-rejection drugs. I went dry sand hunting this weekend with the 10.5" coil and noticed when I broke the detector down for cleaning, the little dinky plastic bolt that holds the coil on was bent. I had a spare from Tesoro, but in a moment of genius (or madness) I pulled out a spare coil bolt from Garrett (much larger, about 3/8") and drilled out the shaft hole on the detector and the mounting holes on both of my coils. After chamfering the holes on the coils (to prevent starting a crack) and opening up the holes in the rubber washers (the spare Garrett ones are too thick)I assembled the detector with its beefier mounting system. It may void the warranty on the coils, but I won't ever have to worry about the little bolt bending / breaking on a trip, and now I only have to stock one size replacement bolt for all my detectors. How are you liking the Tiger mate? Im in Austalia and was thinking about purchasing one to use in our freshwater creeks and rivers.....and on the beaches of course! Some feedback would be grately appreciated! Thanks mate!

I LOVE it!! I don't think you would go wrong with one. So far I only hunt fresh water but will be trying it out in the salt in July. Expect a full report on here, you don't hear much about them in salt. The discrimination makes the small iron go away, without loosing nickels or small jewelry. It picks up those pesky "split shot" fishing weights 5 or 6" deep easy. I have the stock 8" coil and have recently added the 10.5", pinpointing is a breeze with either one, and the large coil is plenty capable of detecting small (BB size) targets. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. HH Joe
