Controller bounced back from a long soak in the River

Old California

New member
Recently, Went water hunting with the Deus using the antenna. Was my third water hunt and with the antenna sends a clear signal to the head set Puck, very amazing performance especially using prospecting mode for water hunting.

On the third hunt, forgot about the controller inside my water mesh pouch. For some reason I had tossed the controller inside the water pouch on the previous hunt after hunting a fresh water river, hunted for a good two hour's straight before realizing the controller was in the pouch. Which was submerged for about the length of the hunt, it was completely soaked.

At home, completely disassembled all the parts including the battery. Tossed everything inside a zip lock bag full of dry Rice, Set it on the patio concrete, it's hot here in Central California didn't take long for all water to evaporate from the components.

Within 4-5 hours, everything back together it turned on with no issues. If anyone accidentally gets the controller wet, don't worry it'll come back to life. Just remove the battery as soon as possible, although my controller was wet the screen was flashing due to the water. To prevent possible damage that was my main concern disconnecting the battery, luckily all is well.

Wanted to share this with you, if my controller bounced back mostly likely so will yours.

Great to hear the controller came back to life . . . would have been an expensive lesson otherwise. Good to know how robust it is but that is one of those facts I'm glad someone else tested out first :)

At least you are back in business with no adverse consequences.

By the way, how did you do in the river find-wise?

Andy

Thank you Andy,

Yes indeed, The controller is one tough piece of equipment. Didn't find gold jewelry, but was impressed with the Deus hunting in water up to my neck in some areas.

With the Deus, After adding the antenna it's like having an underwater detector with minimum additional expense. I use prospecting mode, no discrimination with pitch mode and 54 kHz with the 9" HF coil.

Because of our black sand in fresh water, mineralization tends to drop low conductive targets to come in as iron. Most gold jewelry finds tend to fall on the low side of conductivity, the deeper the target the lower the signal will drop into iron range. I've dug deep quarters IDing as iron, so I make it a habit to dig all signals which is why I hunt with no discrimination and with prospecting mode.

Been using the 9" HF coil for water hunting, 54 kHz and it's incredible. Last night, ordered the HF elliptical with Charlene taking my order. I believe the elliptical with highest kHz in water will be the perfect combination. I'm experiencing great results with the 9" HF coil using 54 kHz, both land and water. Can't wait to get the HF elliptical, this will be a good coil for inland area's laced with iron or in black Sand in fresh water. Plus, Because the coils are White this greatly helps me see the coil under water helping me determine were to place the sand scoop to recover the target.

Will attach a few pictures, showing my simple low budget fresh water setup with puck. The signal is fantastic, no lag or broken signal it's as if it's directly connected from coil to headset. Use zip ties to connect upper antenna to headset and puck, a few zip ties on lower antenna on shaft and coil.

Thanks again Andy and please let Charlene know I appreciate the great service she's wonderful!

Thats for sure Lodge Scent, the controller is one tough piece of equipment.

Even the battery wasn't damaged, and was holding its charge when I plugged it back in after drying out the controller.

Take care,
Paul

Good to hear everything turned out ok Paul.

Was that the river near your house? I understand the rivers around the area are high and running swiftly. Did you pull anything out before you noticed the problem?

Hello El,

Yes, I had pulled a silver superman ring but can't remember if it was the MX Sport or Deus that responded to the ring.

Was there yesterday this time with the new elliptical coil using 74 kHz and underwater antenna, elliptical works great under water and gets great depth. First target was a kids ring, and yes the river is the same river 100 yards behind my home. Then, went to an old farm site. Pounded for year's it's tough to get a coin from here, within 30-40 minute's dug three coins, two wheat backs and a 1947 nickel. Nothing real old, but I seen how the higher frequency see's through iron and trash better than lower frequency. Was using 74 kHz, next time will bump it to 80 kHz.

Plus, From air testing it'll air test a nickel at 12" inches, pennies, dimes and quarters 10" inches plus and that was using 74khz. I'll try and test a coin bed before work today, An old Park near my job will try and run some coin depth testing today. I'm not seeing loss of depth due to the elliptical design, appears it's hotter than other elliptical coils for it's size from other models.

Before I forget, these air test I ran also were on small 14k gold rings and even those are air testing 8" to 10" inches. Separation in an iron laced site is remarkable, XP did it again this elliptical coil is amazing.

One problem, Because the lower shaft is mounted on the lower portion of coil. It tends to fall over, so I'm going to make a neat center mount coil adapter so the lower shaft is mounted in the center of coil, this will add height to the lower center of S-handle so it rest above ground preventing it from tippling over.

I'll share more later on the elliptical, it's a keeper best investment a Deus user can make.

Below are yesterday's finds, upper portion are water finds lower portion are from a farm site. Only hunted the water for about 20 minutes, then went across the road and hunted an old inland farm site now an orchard.

See you El,
Paul

Thanks for the information Paul.

I'm a little confused about the coil mounting. I'll have to wait and see what it looks like.

What is the other machine you show? I believe you told me once but can't recall.

Good hunting and will be interested in your next post.

El

Hello El,

The Pi to the right is a Headhunter Pi, With 10uS 10" center mount coil. Just got it going this week, my other HH Pi is loaned out to a local friend.

Had a chance to test the Deus elliptical on a coin test bed, the lower frequencies did better on deeper high conductive coins. The highest frequency (74khz), was not as crisp in audio on deeper pennies and dimes and that was to be expected. The lowest frequency was getting a buried copper penny at 6" to 7" inches maximum, bumped up the frequency and started losing the signal's.

Even with these results, for an elliptical coil especially at this size these are great results. The 9" HF coil does even better, but it's a bigger coil so I see a need for both if I'm to operate with higher frequencies for my type of hunting. The elliptical hits deep on low conductive, including small gold jewelry. This is good, I'll try and see what setup works best for gold jewelry with the elliptical. I may not be able to operate with 74 to 80 kHz in parks or school grounds, from what I was experiencing today the higher frequency responds to ground conditions (very sensitive) so I may need to operate with the mid frequency that one seemed to do ok under park conditions.

Take care El!

I don't think it would have survived in saltwater you were very lucky good job.

Thanks Paul.

Keep the reports coming and if you can, some before and after pictures of your adapter.
