Did you send the parcel by Registered Insured delivery? your usually covered for up to

I had a guy send me a detector for a modification. He had insurance on it and it showed up totally destroyed. It was a mess proving what the detector cost to the post office. They want receipts from when you bought it. They wanted an estimate from the factory on the repairs etc. I believe it was way over 45 days before he got any compensation. Meanwhile he bought a new detector and sent it to me.

not sure where you're located, as I am not familiar with your ISP. But here in the States, I never ship anything without adequate insurance. There are just too many uncontrollable circumstances when in sending any item from point A to point B, to not insure the shipment. You didn't mention how long it has been "in transit". So hopefully it is just delayed and not lost.

However, if you do not recover the X-70 housing, and have to purchase a new one, you could probably sell the parts you don't need. There are always folks looking for X-Terra coils and rods assemblies. HH Randy

Right now I am a little hesitant to say this but I am a mailman and believe me we try to be carefully with anything we deliver, at least any postal worker I have ever worked with. I am not trying to claim perfection but I must sometimes ask what advantage would it be to us to destroy anything? I wish you luck and I hope it shows up soon and all is OK with your machine.

These days it pays to "Over pack" items. Lots of padding and crush space around everything. I know it increases the shipping costs, but it's worth it to get your items delivered in one piece. Sorry to hear of the problem you had. I know I would be very mad if it happened to me.

Good hunting, John K

All of the folks I know, working at the Post Office, are careful to not destroy any items. So don't be hesitant to admit you work there! :) But in this instance, I think we are talking about something not arriving at the intended destination, rather than arriving damaged. And that is the point of my purchasing insurance for every item I ship. Regardless whether it is USPS, FedEx or UPS, shipping insurance, combined with Delivery Confirmation, provides me the "peace of mind" that my packages will arrive at the right address, intact. If they don't, for whatever reason, I have recourse to be reimbursed for the value of that package. JMHO HH Randy

Sorry to hear about your problem. I recently sent a silver ring back to the maker in Gallup, NM. I lost the insurance receipt and was really sweating it because it took the guy 3 weeks to let me know he had gotten it. Anyway...I am a retired postmaster and wish to tell you that there are a lot of dedicated postal workers that do their best. However...As everywhere, there are also a lot of care-nothing workers that do throw packages around. Based on my 34 years of postal service I always overpack anything and everything (except for letters) and always insure for the full amount. Hope things work out for you. I know it can be very frustrating but, I still use the post office they are cheaper than UPS around here.
